Celebrate the Coronation with local activities for all!

The coronation of King Charles III and Camilla, Queen of Consort of the UK and the other Commonwealth realms will take place on Saturday 6th May 2023. The event, scheduled at Westminster Abbey will be celebrated across the world. You may have your own celebrations planned, but if not, here are a few local gems of events that may make your celebratory weekend a little bit more royal.

 

Wednesday 3rd May

Coronation: Cake, Coffee & Quiz at Joicey Street, Pelaw Library, Gateshead (11 am – 12 midday).

Come and celebrate the coronation with a themed quiz and refreshments. Free event, adults only.

Friday 5th May – Monday 8th May

Coronation Celebrations - Durham Cathedral

To celebrate the memorable weekend, Durham Cathedral will be hosting a series of special services and events. These include illuminating the cathedral in red, white, and blue each evening, alongside daytime events such as picnics on Cloister Garth.

Saturday 6th May

The King's Coronation Celebration Tea Party at St Bedes Unit, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Gateshead (1-4 pm).

This free event for all will include a treasure hunt, raffle, tombola, garden tea party, face painting, and more.

6th – 8th May: Coronation Weekend – Beamish Museum, County Durham

If you don't mind travelling a little further, Beamish Museum have a celebratory packed weekend for visitors. With street parties, broadcasting of the Coronation, and a trip through time, there is something for everyone.

7th May

The Big Lunch, Metrocentre, Gateshead (11 am – 2 pm).

Visit the Metrocentre for a community Big Lunch to celebrate the Coronation. Come together with friends or to make new friends in a communal celebration as Big Lunches occur at the same time across the country.

Bring your packed lunch and join the Metrognomes, whilst being entertained by Bouncing Bugsy, joining in with the games, and even create your own crow.

The event organisers are asking for a £2 donation which will go to support Gateshead Food Bank.

King Charles III Coronation Variety Show at The Fed, Lancaster Road, Dunston, Gateshead  (12:30 – 3 pm).

Join in the indoor street party including afternoon tea and a variety show that's guaranteed to make you laugh, sing, and dance.
