Bus companies across the North East have decided that every fare paying customer can take up to three children aged 11 and under on all bus services, all day, every day until Saturday 7th May.

As the Metro and Shields Ferry already operate this policy, all buses and Metro services in Tyne and Wear, Northumberland and Durham are absolutely FREE for children travelling with a paying adult.

Gateshead Council say the new deal will help families enjoy cheap days out – and help cut the number of car journeys to help the environment too.

Anneliese Hutchinson, service director for development, transport and public protection, said: “This is a really welcome commitment from the bus companies. It shows what can be achieved by close partnership working, all focusing on increasing passenger numbers on low carbon public transport.
“Making family trips out affordable is good for people’s wellbeing, good for those struggling with the cost of living, and also good for the environment by encouraging modal shift to see fewer car journeys on our roads.”
