LIVE BLOG – Storm Eunice Brings Wind And Snow Across North East

8.32pm – Metro’s off between North Shields and Tynemouth

Due to a brick wall falling recently on a North Shields Metro line, trains between North Shields and Tynemouth are currently off. Hew Lewis, Commercial Services Director, said that services are set to stay cancelled until next week.

He’s said: “You can see that a wall has collapsed right over the railway line. There is loose masonry lying there that at any time could fall onto the tracks so we had to close the line between North Shields and Tynemouth.

“It is not a quick job to repair the damage. We need to put scaffolding in place, turn the power off and that would affect a much wider area than just these two stations.”
