Dog walkers in the North East are being urged to avoid the coast due to many cases of dogs coming off the coastal areas unwell.

The mystery illness is causing sickness and diarrhoea in some dogs.

Vets across the region have said that they have been ‘inundated’ with unwell dogs following a visit to the beach, sea, and coastal areas. With cases being reported in Scarborough, Whitby, Saltburn and Seaton Sluice.

In a social media post, Yorkshire Pet Care expressed, “I work within several practices up and down the North East coast and we have recently been inundated with dogs coming off the beaches with vomiting and diarrhoea.

“Personally, until the local authorities have got to the bottom of it I would not recommend taking your pets on the beach for the foreseeable future.

“I have been in touch with governing bodies and they are currently looking into it.”
