We previously reported how the fireworks in London would not go ahead and that Big Ben would ring us all into 2022.
However, reports have emerged that the iconic fireworks display in London will now go ahead. However, the public are highly advised not to go down to the event, and to just watch it on TV on BBC One via the comfort of your own homes.
It comes after the rise of Omicron cases in recent weeks, the government are advising people to enjoy their New Years Eve but to continue taking tests and to stay as safe as possible.
Those spectacular fireworks will be shown live on BBC One, and with previous years gone by, there will be a fantastic musical soundtrack which will showcase the best music from the past few years.
Big Ben Renovations Ready In Time For New Years Eve
Big Ben’s renovations have finally been completed in time to ring in the New Year.
Costing a whopping £79.7 million, the tower has been silent since 2017 – until now.
In 2020, thanks to a few issues, the renovations have since doubled with an additional £18.6 million added to the bill.
The London Mayor, speaking to local press, said “This year, as well as a brand-new celebration event in Trafalgar Square, we can look forward to a live broadcast spectacular which will showcase our magnificent city on BBC One.
London is simply magical during these winter months and after all we have endured as a city we have every reason to celebrate as we look ahead to the new year.
“The Covid-19 pandemic has meant we are not able to put on our world-famous public event on the banks of the Thames this year, but it’s important we reflect on and pay tribute to the defining moments of the year and look to 2021 with hope, and that’s why we are replacing it with a unique broadcast on BBC One.
“We know that New Year’s Eve is traditionally an opportunity to show off our great city to the rest of the world, which we will still be doing this year in a show you’ll only be able to watch from home, on the BBC.” he added.
“It will be a celebration of hope, but also provide a moment of reflection on the challenges of this year and the way Londoners pulled together.”
