Thousands upon thousands of families have enjoyed and still enjoy events at the Metrocentre, in Gateshead, including many shows from The Metrognomes.
One of the creators who helped to bring those five colourful characters to life was John Lambert, who has sadly passed away recently.
In a statement, the shopping centre said today:
Today we’d like to give a special mention to our dear friend John Lambert who has been a big part of entertaining families across the North East for over 30 years.
John sadly passed away today so we wanted to share a selection of photos from the many events and promotions we have held here at Metrocentre over the years.
John’s creativity and colourful imagination helped bring the Metrognomes to life and together they have brought joy to thousands of families over the years.
We will miss John hugely, and have his family, friends and the Q20 team (past and present) in our thoughts at this sad time.
Many local people shared their tributes to John on social media:
One wrote “Sad day but great memories of days at MetroCentre management when John entertained not only customers but our team too! RIP”.
Another shared their tribute saying “He was a great entertainer, as I’d seen him over the years making both kids and adults alike happy. I sincerely send my condolences, may he rest in peace”.
The Metrocentre also shared many special photographs with John, Metrognomes and the rest of the Q20 Team who helped to put their spectacular shows and events together.
Ann English helped to design the brand and identity, including the creation of the costumes.
